With education at the center of all we do, Carlisle Academy offers a broad range of continuing educational programs for equestrians, equine therapy & sports professionals, practitioners, and community members. Additionally, Carlisle Academy’s professional staff provides consultation services in a variety of program and administrative areas.
Carlisle Academy is pleased to be a resource for equine therapy and sport professionals and practitioners by hosting PATH workshops and certifications, AHA courses and certifications and USPEA Symposia and clinics. Carlisle Academy is proud to be named the Official USPEA Education Partner. With joined forces, the goal is to develop and deliver consistent and equitable educational programs across geographic regions to the trainers, riders, judges, and auditors within the para-dressage community. This will be accomplished through a variety of avenues and programs including:
- USPEA/USEF Para-Dressage National Symposia
- USPEA-Accredited Train the Trainer Workshops & Coaches’ Certifications
- National Outreach Events, including Para-Equestrian 101 Courses
- Youth & Adult Para-Dressage Clinics

7-Week Horse Handler Training Course
Carlisle Academy is one of the few therapeutic riding centers that uses professional, paid horse handlers to manage horses in adaptive and hippotherapy sessions. Employing trained horse handlers ensures the highest possible standards of safety and consistency for horses and riders, which ultimately leads to improved outcomes.
Our Horse Handling Training Course will benefit anyone interested in the equine industry, particularly those interested in becoming a horse handler in therapeutic/adaptive settings. The course is 7 weeks in duration with a 20 hour per week commitment, and is taught by Carlisle Academy’s Horse Captain as well as Carlisle’s staff horse handlers who have additional instructor certifications through CHA or PATH, Intl. The course will cover topics including horsemanship, equine care, ground driving, long lining, ring etiquette, equine training and conditioning, communication, and documentation. Upon successful achievement, participants will receive a Carlisle Academy Certificate of Completion and Performance Evaluation. Space is limited. Application, tuition and interview process apply.
Carlisle Academy’s Apprentice Program offers community members a valuable educational exchange based on a service-learning model. In exchange for providing sidewalking support to riders in the Academy’s Therapy & Adaptive Program, apprentices have access to educational opportunities, including Apprentice Socials. Internships are created for high school students, college students, or recent graduates who wish to undergo supervised practical training. Interns whose focus of study is in clinical or educational modalities can benefit from these programs. To learn more, click here.
Carlisle Academy’s professional staff provides consultation services in organizational management, program design, budgeting, OT/PT consultation to the IEP Team, and sensory processing evaluations in the classroom. Those individuals or groups interested in this service should call the office to inquire. Rates are based on time and travel expenses. On site visits as well as teleconferencing consultation are available. A work proposal will be supplied which includes the scope of the project, timeline, deliverables, and estimated fees.
